Questions: A monologue is a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of a theatrical or broadcast program. Let's pretend you are the main character in your own play. In the play, you are getting ready to take your best friend to a play. The only problem is, your friend has never been to a theatre in their life and sometimes embarrasses you in public. Please read pages 12 and 13* in your TEXT BOOK and write a monologue (2 or 3 paragraphs in your own character's voice) explaining to your best friend how they should behave when you go to the show. Feel free to make up any scenarios you'd like. Have fun with this! Be specific.

As I stand in front of the mirror, adjusting my tie for the umpteenth time, I can't help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension. Tonight is the night I finally introduce my best friend, Alex, to the world of theatre. It's a world that has been my sanctuary, my escape, and now, I want to share it with them. But, oh, the thought of Alex's unpredictable antics in a place that demands decorum makes my heart race.

"Alex, my dear friend," I begin, rehearsing my words as if they were lines in a play. "Tonight is special. The theatre is a place of magic, where stories come alive and emotions dance in the air. But, it's also a place where we must respect the performers and the audience. So, when we take our seats, remember to whisper if you must speak, and keep your phone silent. The actors on stage have worked tirelessly to bring this story to life, and they deserve our full attention."

I pause, imagining Alex's wide-eyed curiosity and the inevitable questions that will follow. "And, Alex," I continue, "when the lights dim and the curtain rises, let yourself be swept away by the performance. Laugh when it's funny, cry when it's sad, but do it with grace. And when the show ends, if you loved it, clap with all your heart. It's the actors' reward for a job well done. Trust me, you'll feel the magic too." With a deep breath, I smile at my reflection, hoping my words will guide Alex through this new adventure.
