Transcript text: 17) The 1st Amendment of the United States of America declares that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceable to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The best restatement of this amendment is:
a. All Americans have a great deal of freedom guaranteed by Congress in the Bill of Rights.
b. Freedom of religion is one of the first rights guaranteed by Congress; therefore, it is the most important.
c. All Americans have freedom of speech, religion, and assembly, which Congress must support.
d. Congress cannot make laws that prohibit a persons right to establish and exercise a religious belief, exercise free speech, or address the government with complaints.
