Transcript text: 5. In three to five sentences, describe the differences between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
Solution
The central nervous system (CNS) consists of the brain and spinal cord. It is responsible for processing and integrating information, and it acts as the control center for the body. The peripheral nervous system (PNS), on the other hand, includes all the nerves that branch out from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. It is responsible for transmitting signals between the CNS and the limbs and organs. While the CNS is protected by the skull and vertebral column, the PNS is more exposed and includes sensory and motor neurons that facilitate communication between the body and the CNS.
