Transcript text: The process analysis is used when we tell someone how to do something or explain how something works. We might explain to someone how to plant a garden or how a computer program works. Our explanation is effective if we are able to break up the process into steps and clearly explain each one.
Often when we give instructions orally, we also are able to demonstrate the procedure; however, in writing, we rely only on words, so not only must each step be clear, but we also must include descriptive detail so the reader can visualize the steps. The topic sentence of the process paragraph should state the topic (the process to be explained) and an attitude or viewpoint about the process. Sometimes, we state the purpose of learning the process in the topic sentence.
Look at the following examples of topic sentences for process paragraphs.
